The Rueny is a wide-set rectangular sunglass in chunky acetate — the kind of proportionally generous frame Oliver Peoples has built much of its catalogue around, but here with a squareness that reads more architectural than retro. The silhouette is assertive: thick temples, a flat upper brow, lens corners that stay close to right angles without quite tipping into severity. In Tokyo Tortoise, the acetate occupies a very specific point in the tortoiseshell spectrum — high-contrast, graphic, a pattern of deep black against bright amber-gold that sits closer to abstract than to the warm, graduated tortoise of the tradition. Against this, the Cognac lenses carry a warm amber-brown tint that reads in direct continuity with the acetate palette.
